Canada occupies most of the northern portion of the North American continent with a total area of 9,984,670 sq. km. Which makes it the second largest country in the world after Russia. As shown in the Canada Map, the nation is bound by Atlantic Ocean on the eastern side, Pacific Ocean in the west, Arctic Ocean in the north and the country of United States in the south and the US State of Alaska in the northwest.
Canada is a parliamentary democracy with Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada as its Head of State and the Prime Minister of Canada as the Head of Government. The country is a proud member of G8 and OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) with the 10th highest per capita in the world at $35,600 according to 2006 estimates.
The demographic map of Canada depicts it as a nation with multi-ethnic identity and one of the lowest population densities at 3.5 people per sq. km. Canada has a total population of 33,121,000 which is 36th highest in the world. Some of the most populated regions in the country include the southeastern region of Quebec City- Windsor Corridor, the BC Lower Mainland and the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor in Alberta. Most of the population growth in the recent years is a result of continued immigration more than anything else. In fact, it has the highest per capita immigration rate in the world including a large number of refugees as well. Though Canadian culture is largely influenced by the British, French, American and Aboriginal culture, another important source of cultural assimilation is continued immigration which is primarily responsible for the rise of multiculturalism in Canada.
